My name is Doris McMillan and I was born in Florence, Alabama. Yes, I am in
my golden years and still active.
I spent most of my early years in Alabama then I moved to Georgia where I
met my husband, Buddy (John Morgan McMillan), who was my next door
neighbor. After we were married, we lived in Atlanta and there we had three
little girls - Linda Dianne, Shirley Eliane, and Carolynne Sue.
Then we moved to Florida because of Linda's allergies. We bought a home in
Atlantic Beach, Florida which is still our family home.
In the 1960's I was blessed with two more children, my son, Phillip Gregory
and another daughter, Annette. First Linda left home joining the airlines a
few years after graduation, she went to college and technical schools for
two years and received an AA in Human Services). She became a healer
acupuncturist, massage/colon therapist. She presently lives in Atlanta,
Georgia, and is a health care practitioner as well as a real estate
investor. Shirley married Brad Parker and gave Buddy and me two
grandchildren, Jason and Nicole. Shirley studied and became an accomplished
artist. Her oil paintings are awesome. Shirley and Brad divorced however
they still remain friends. Then years later she married her present husband
Michael McCoy. They had a son together who is a very talented pianist.
Colton is now 15 years old. Carolynne got married to Joe Pack and gave us
two grandsons, Mark and Brian. Carolynne's hobbies are training and
grooming exotic birds. She owns two birds which have incredible
vocabularies. She owns her home and loves landscaping and tending her
gardens. Gregory married Kelly who was his high school sweetheart and they
have a son, John. Greg was for many years a part of a well known group of
musicians in Jacksonville called "Not Tonight I've Got the Blues Band,"
which won best band in Jax years ago. He was one of three trumpeters. The
band has CD recordings. The band members are all full time
businessmen/women as well as family people. The band used to be very active
around Jacksonville for many years. Greg owns his own home in Jacksonville
and is a successful salesman. Kelly, his wife, works in the insurance
field. Annette left Florida after graduation in 1981 and moved to
California. There she attended college and received an AA in Art. She
worked in the dental field for 20 years and has recently returned home to
Atlantic Beach. Her goals are to continue her education.
Shirley's only daughter, Nicole, is presently engaged to be married to
Clint. Nicole has a four-year-old blond little daughter, Nadia. Carolynne's
eldest son, Mark, has his own towing business and now is the proud father
of his first son, Brandon.
Buddy moved to Atlanta years ago to continue working in the theatre. Even
though he is now retired, he still resides there in a cute 2/1 home on a
corner lot with a lovely yard in S.E. Atlanta. We have a distant
relationship now since I remained in Florida at the home site. However,
during the summers I prefer to travel north to stay with my husband as long
as he wants me to do so. I love helping him with the house. I also enjoy
visiting my family in Alabama of which I have two sisters who are in good
health. My mother passed away in 1997 at the age of 94. She was a wonderful
woman and a good mother. Listed below is a few poems I was inspired to
write while visiting family over the years.
